It has an important impact on the safety, performance and cost of the battery. In 2011, the global LiPF6 production is about 4800 tons, while the electrolyte production is about 43,000 tons, which is mainly concentrated in Japan, S. Korea and China. In China, the electrolyte and its solvent, additives has been basically to achieve localization, but most of the LiPF6 still need to import from overseas with the high price. The LIB electrolyte is generally based on liquid organic solvent, which has security risks when leaks. So, the solid electrolyte based lithium polymer battery (LIP) have advantages of better security, flexibility and more lightweight, it is growing rapidly, especially in smart phones and tablet PCs.
