Separator accounts for 20-30% of the LIB total cost, and has the significant impact on the safety performance and cost of the battery. According to statistics, in 2011, the global demand for LIB separator is about 400 million square meters, the total market value is about USD 1.2 billion. Separator is the kind of battery material which has the highest technology barriers and lowest localization rate. In China, about 80% of the separators need to be imported from overseas. In the "12th Five-Year" period (2011-2015), Chinese Government will encourage the development of self-owned battery separator technologies, as well as the improvement of localization rate. National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has released the “Industrial Restructure Guidance Catalogue (2011)", it is clearly announced that to encourage the development of battery separator (thickness of 15 ~ 40μm, porosity of 40% ~ 60%). In recent years, following the Shenzhen SENIOR, Henan GREEN, Foshan Jinhui, Nantong TianFeng, there are dozens of other domestic investors eager to enter this field. China separator industry is not only facing the huge market growth opportunity, but also hiding the technical constraints and risks of over investment.
